“i think that’d been better too. no idea why they went for 1080p for the original series when Kuuga is 540p on the same service lol”
Because all the Kamen Rider shows in the Showa era were shot and mastered to actual film, which is much easier to upscale at a later date. This is why old films can be re-released on 4K UHD Bluray and look fantastic, and yet we’ll never see blurays for Star Trek Voyager. Because as I mentioned over in your Kuuga torrent, it was mastered to VHS in 2000, so VHS tapes are the only source to work from.
You’re not wrong, but it’s definitely not 1080p worthy and doesn’t look that good. The point of this torrent is more to do with the fact this is likely the less altered encode with the highest bitrate, which is why I ripped it. It’s really good for us, and for that I’m grateful, but it doesn’t make much sense for the streaming platform to waste so much bandwidth on it. It’s not like it’s because all their shows must be full HD always either, which is what I alluded to with the Kuuga comparison.
Since Shout Factory’s Kuuga encodes as the ones with the least effort put into them (given it’s still interlaced), we can assume that the source (which was given by Toei to Shout and it’s unlikely to be just the clean masters) is likely 1080p interlaced. Amazon went out of their way to deinterlace and (probably) downscale it. Why not the same for the original show? Again, I’m glad they didn’t, but it does strike me as odd.
Also worth noting that Agito, also mastered to VHS, is 1080p on amazon and that Tubi has Kuuga at 720p, which is their highest resolution.
Anyway I’m not sure what “source” everyone is using, since even Toei themselves are making dumb decisions. Their own copies of Black, RX and Ryuki, for example, that they uploaded to their own Youtube channel, aren’t using their bluray source and look pretty hilariously bad. Why they wouldn’t use the best source available when they’re the copyright owners boggles the mind.

hmm, given how old the series, would of at least had it as 720p format?

kaiserstar1
did you have amazon riders?

amazon removed the first season a while ago so no reason to rip the second one
over-time should be better anyways

This is a ridiculous size. How has no one uploaded a batch for the first series through Shout’s streaming service till this?

It seems strange that no one has completed this torrent yet. 146.5 GB is rather large but still… strange…

LMAO then Amazon is dumb. Not that that’s new.
